The PepperBall projectiles manufactured by Jaycor Corporation represent a nonlethal system that police officers can use to control suspects with a minimum of force and from a distance greater than what has previously been possible.

Abstract

The PepperBall impacts a target with only 8 to 10 feet per pound of kinetic energy, the same as a paintball, rather than the typical 120 feet per pound of beanbags. Impact energy is central to PepperBall safety. These projectiles are safe from point-blank range. The size of the bruise on the person depends on the distance from the launcher. The impact of multiple PepperBalls is attitude changing in the target individual. Several different launchers and rounds are available for the PepperBall system to accommodate different needs and situations. The system accuracy is more than adequate and consistently able to hit a human-size target at 20 yards or more. Training is essential, just as it is with all new products. PepperBall may become one of the most significant developments to come into the law enforcement arsenal if early reports fairly represent this product. Photographs
